I found myself in the garden today. I've ignored it far too long. In fact, I never finished planting this year as in June, my husband of 41 years was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, the brain tumor John McCain has made a household word. Only Jeff's was in a location that was not operable so radiation and chemotherapy have been our daily routine.

Rabbi Birdie I am so, so sorry to read about your husband. That's it, then, as if we needed more proof -- why do such awful things have to happen to such wonderful people? You are so full of light and love and beauty. I send all positive, healing prayers.

Dear Jennifer, Bad things just happen and sometimes good people are there when they do. Jeff is one of those people that got caught is the world's mush. It isn't fair but as is said, we weren't promised the world was fair. Thank you for your beautiful thoughts. All good energy is felt and appreciated. Wishing for you and your beautiful family a shanah tovah umitukah. May it be sweet, joyous and healthy. Hugs

Birdie, Steve and zi were very saddened to hear of Jeff's illness. We wish him Refuah Shlema and wish bith of uou and your family the strength to cope with all the miseries and challenges posed by this horrible disease. We hope the chemo and radiation work and that you will soon be able to enjoy the fruit of your garden together in health and happiness.

A lovely thought, Barb. I only wish the peach trees had born fruit this year. They were lush and sweet last year but the late spring freeze took the flowers. Guess he'll just have to stay around until next year's blossoms can produce fruit. (she says with tears but as Larry Schwartz was fond of saying, you never know).

Dear Birdie: I am so sorry to hear what you both are going through. Having lived with Steve's medical challenges now for over 12 years, I know it is truly a shared experience. So important to take quiet, self-care moments. I pray for continued healing in every element of his protocols to bring r'fuah and for your strength and stamina in such a demanding and emotional time. Much love & hugs, Eva

I just discovered your blog and want you to know how much I related to your eloquent and honest writing about how you felt as you dealt with your husband's cancer. I know that your faith, family, and friends will help you through your grief. I lost my husband to kidney cancer on my birthday in 2008 and have found that despite the passage of time, I still feel his presence and see so much of him in my daughters and grandchildren. Jeff will always be with you ❤️
